There are about as many variations of Barbecue Sauce as there are different types and styles of Barbecue! This is a good, basic Barbecue sauce to please the masses. Personally, I prefer a little more kick to my Barbeque Sauce, I'm not crazy about starting with a Ketchup (or Catsup) base, and I prefer to spell my 'Que in the less traditional way, with a Que! Keep in mind that, as I always say, a recipe is merely a guideline, not a rule. Tweek it to fit your culinary preference, or that of the mouths you are feeding. Either way, fire up that smoker (or plug it in for you smoking overachievers), and let's get to 'Queing!
Classic Barbecue Sauce
Ingredients:
1¾ C Ketchup ½ C + 2 T Water ¼ C + 1 T Apple Cider Vinegar ¼ C + 1 T White Vinegar ¼ C + 1½ t Brown Sugar 2 T + 1½ t Worcestershire Sauce 1 T Chile Powder 1 T Ground Cumin 1 ½ t Kosher Salt 1 ½ t Coarse Black Pepper
Instructions:
In medium saucepan, combine all ingredients and warm gently over medium heat, stirring occasionally. There is no need to bring the mixture to a boil, as the idea is to warm it enough to melt and integrate the ingredients.
Remove from heat and let cool.
Transfer to a jar, bottle, squeeze bottle, or however you wish to store it. Store in the refrigerator for up to 1 month.
Makes about 3 cups
