As we gather our families for the celebration of life, our holiday traditions and giving is the time where we bring all together for one incredible journey of life.
Our tradition this year will be celebrating with my wife’s side including her previous husband and family at their home with a “Christmas Vacation” theme. I will be dressed as the boss with a big red bow. As silly as it may seem, I truly believe that this tradition will evolve each year. I have to admit, I wanted it to be a more broad movie theme, so I could be “Bad Santa”. Dang it!!
I like traditions, especially family traditions, it warms my heart. Most don’t know that my youth was a rough one to say the least, however new life and forgiveness is what this season is about, so I have forgiven but not quite forgotten, and I must remember that 50% of me is that person who wasn’t so kind. We have improved our relationship and bonded in a unique way, and must I remind myself that the greatest Christian value I know is “Love”, and that is what I will share with them this year, along with an ever blooming Christmas cactus!
I’ve promised myself that the past is the past and we all must move forward. So I ask that you, should you be estranged or have estranged yourself from someone, try to find it in your heart to forgive them for this short period, and “Love” them unconditionally.
Now, let’s get back to the “meat” of this holiday! What’s on your plate for the holiday? Ours is “Mexican” themed and I just have to bring two items, first being the Southwest Hatch Green Chile Mac and Cheese and secondly the “Elotes de Crema”, roasted corn kernels served in a spicy cream sauce. I’m very anxious to see what else will be on the menu, this will be fun! Now that I won’t be having to cook for so many, I don’t know what I’m going to do with myself! Being it’s not at the ranch I will have to socialize, and hopefully I can gain control of the remote. Nothing like “ Food Channel” themed Christmas cooking shows, along with “RFD” cattle reports. They’ll hate me, LOL! Maybe a good old game of twister, nah I’m not limber enough anymore, drinking games won’t work especially with an alcohol laced egg nog, touch football game would be nice except I will be in pjs (caution), maybe playing with the grand kids, nope they won’t have any of that after 15 minutes they’ll be off to something else, Dallas Cowboy football won’t be, well never-mind we know the answer to that joke, then it will be what it’ll be, so now move over out my way in the kitchen doing what I do best, pissing off others, perfect!
With all sincerity find a tradition and live it to the best, love someone, hug them like you’ll never will again, pinch grandma on the “six”, wake grandpa up out of the chair, kiss that ubiquitous sister/brother and let those kids run amuck!
With the greatest joy and love for you all, have a very Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and that Kwanza thang!
God bless you all!
